Virginia International Raceway, known to drivers simply as VIR, is a multi-configuration road course set on rolling farmland in Alton, Virginia, near the North Carolina border. The full-course layout runs 3.27 miles through 17 turns, and the facility can be split into shorter Patriot, North, South, and Grand West circuits, giving it some of the most flexible track configurations in North American motorsport. Its elevation changes, blind crests, and fast sweeping corners have earned it a reputation as a true driver's circuit that rewards commitment and precision.

The track first opened in 1957 and quickly became a fixture of American sports car racing before closing in 1974. After sitting dormant for decades it was restored and reopened in 2000, and it now operates as a year-round motorsport resort with on-site lodging, a country club, and karting. Today VIR hosts marquee professional series including the IMSA SportsCar Championship, the Trans-Am Series, MotoAmerica, and SCCA National Championship Runoffs.

For drivers pursuing instruction and track time, VIR is a benchmark venue. Its mix of high-speed straights, technical complexes, and dramatic terrain makes it an ideal place to build car control, learn proper racing lines, and develop the confidence needed for competitive racing. The combination of professional-grade facilities and a layout that challenges all skill levels keeps it among the most respected road courses in the United States.
