The Shanghai International Circuit is a permanent motorsport road course in the Jiading District of Shanghai, China. Designed by renowned circuit architect Hermann Tilke and opened on June 6, 2004, it was built for a reported 2.6 billion yuan and quickly became one of Asia's flagship racing venues. The full Grand Prix layout runs 5.451 km (3.388 mi) over 16 turns, with a grandstand capacity of around 200,000 spectators.

The circuit is famous for its layout, which Tilke modeled on the Chinese character "shang," meaning "to rise" or "above." Its signature feature is the long, tightening Turn 1 to 2 complex that spirals in on itself, followed late in the lap by an enormous back straight feeding a hard braking zone. The combination demands precise corner entry, patience on the throttle, and confident heavy braking, making it a rewarding study in car balance and racecraft for drivers at every level.

Best known as the home of the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix, hosted from 2004 to 2019 and again from 2024 onward, the venue also welcomed the Shanghai ePrix of the Formula E championship beginning in 2024 and has staged MotoGP, A1 Grand Prix, and FIA World Endurance Championship rounds. With multiple configurations including the shorter West Long Circuit and Shanghai's only world-class outdoor karting track, it is a versatile facility that connects everyday driving enthusiasts to the same corners contested by the sport's elite.
