Road America is a 4.048-mile, 14-turn permanent road racing circuit located near the resort town of Elkhart Lake in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Opened on September 10, 1955, it is one of the oldest and most revered natural-terrain road courses in the United States, nicknamed "America's National Park of Speed." Unlike modern stadium-style tracks, the layout flows across the rolling Kettle Moraine countryside with very few changes to its original 1955 design, giving it a fast, sweeping, and historic character.
The circuit is famous for its blend of high-speed straights, dramatic elevation changes, and demanding corners such as the Carousel, the Kink, Canada Corner, and the long uphill run to Turn 6. With minimal runoff and a fast average speed, Road America rewards bravery, precision, and momentum, making it a favorite among professional drivers and a serious test for anyone learning high-performance driving. The 56.7-acre Elkhart Lake road circuits were added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
Today Road America hosts a deep schedule of premier series, including the NTT IndyCar Series, the IMSA SportsCar Championship, GT World Challenge America, the Trans-Am Series, MotoAmerica, and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. For drivers pursuing track education and racing licenses, Road America offers a rare combination of speed, history, and technical challenge that builds genuine car control and confidence at the highest level.
