Daytona International Speedway is one of the most famous race tracks in the United States, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, about 50 miles north of Orlando. Often called the "World Center of Racing," the facility was built in 1959 by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. to replace the old Daytona Beach Road Course and to give fans faster, more visible racing. It is best known for its 2.5-mile high-speed tri-oval, a layout whose steeply banked turns let cars carry enormous speed and run in tight packs.
The speedway is a true multi-surface venue. Beyond the signature superspeedway tri-oval, the property includes a 3.56-mile sports car road course that winds through the infield, plus dedicated motorcycle and karting circuits and the 29-acre Lake Lloyd inside the infield. This versatility is why Daytona hosts such a wide range of competition, from stock cars and prototypes to sports cars and motorcycles, all on the same legendary grounds.
For drivers, Daytona is a proving ground that rewards bravery, precision, and trust in a car at sustained high speed. Its history is woven into American motorsport, and learning the disciplines behind track driving here connects students to a venue where the sport's biggest names have raced for more than six decades. The combination of high banking, long sweeping corners, and a demanding infield road course makes it an ideal backdrop for understanding car control, racecraft, and momentum.
