TEENAGE DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…
What is a typical class size?
Class sizes range from 8 - 24 students – depending on the llocation. We strive to maintain a 4 to 1 student to instructor
ratio, so all students receive individualized, excellent iinstruction despite class size.
Can students bring a parent or other guest?
Absolutely… Parents are welcome, and even encouraged, to sit in the classroom and then go out to observe the
driving. We require all guests to sign our waivers.
How much classroom vs. driving?
There is a 45 minute classroom in the morning and a half hour session after lunch. The rest is spent out on the
closed-course, driving in various exercises.
How does a Gift Certificate work?
All Defensive Driving Academy Gift Certificates are good for one year from the date of purchase. Full payment is
required when the Gift Certificate is purchased. Along with the Gift Certificate, we sent a complete packet of
information on our school and what will be happening on the day of the course. A date does not have to be selected
until after the applicant receives the packet. A “blank” envelope can be requested, just in case it’s a surprise!
Is my teen a good candidate for this course?
Your teen should have a couple of months of driving experience before coming to Defensive Driving Academy. Since
we don't actually teach students how to drive, it's important that they have a certain comfort level behind the wheel. If
they are still a timid driver, we suggest some additional practice time before enrolling.
Does my teen need to be licensed?
No. As long as they have been driving for a couple of months, they don't need to have their license, just their permit.
Do they drive on the public roads?
No. All Defensive Driving Academy exercises are done in a controlled and closed-course environment.
Does this class count towards my teen’s 6-hour driving requirement?
No, in fact, this course should be taken after your teen’s Driver Education/Driver Training course. This defensive
driving course is meant to supplement those classes. We do not teach your teen how to drive… we go above and
beyond.
Why is this course so important?
For the most part, driving schools teach teens how to pass their driver's license test and how to drive themselves
around town. Defensive Driving Academy builds on this information and prepares teens for a potentially dangerous
situation. Important car control exercises, in a safe environment, allow students to understand why a car loses
control and what to do if it happens to them. Our professional instructors are there to guide them every step of the
way.
Who are the DDA instructors?
Our instructors have years and years of combined experience teaching car control as well as having a
comprehensive understanding of vehicle dynamics. Their backgrounds include vehicle testing for manufacturers,
racing instruction, precision driving for television and movies, new car introductions, car control clinics, and racing
competition. We hand-select our instructors and choose only the best teachers who provide a fun and educational
learning environment.
How do I sign up?
Simply fill out an application and fax it or mail it (with your deposit) or register on-line at www.DefensiveDrivingAcademy.net. Once your application is received, our office will process it and send out a
