"Accident Avoidance" exercises shows a driver how to react to a panic situation while maintaining control of their vehicle.

"Wet skid pad" driving adds adverse driving conditions, testing both driver control

and common sense.

It's no secret that automobile accidents are the leading cause of death of teenagers - it's a FACT.  This is a bittersweet statistic, considering this is such an exciting transition in a teen's life, but a real one nonetheless.  Auto manufacturers continue to improve safety technology 'under the hood', shouldn't we apply that same time and energy to improving the safety technology behind the wheel...   the driver

We think so.

As industry leaders in driver training, FAST LANE developed a one day behind-the-wheel advanced skills course to supplement the driver's education process, the Defensive Driving Academy.  This course is  designed to give new drivers real-world driving experience in a controlled and safe environment.  We teach everything from proper seating position to braking techniques to accident avoidance maneuvers as well as responsibilities as a driver and dangers of driving while distracted. Our goal is to give each driver hands on training to better prepare them for situations they may encounter as a new driver.

According to police reports,

82% of teen accidents

are caused by "DRIVER ERROR "

INSTRUCTORS

DDA participants are all different and our professional instructors are careful to work with each participant at their own individual level.  Defensive Driving Academy's instructors' backgrounds include accomplished race car drivers, retired law enforcement, automotive educators and more.  These seasoned veterans are hand picked for two reasons...  First, they have an extensive knowledge of car control and vehicle dynamics.   Second, and most important, they have demonstrated an extraordinary talent and passion for teaching.

One out of three teens has an accident

during their first year of driving.

In our skid control exercise, they show students how to recognize when their car may be out of control, or going into a skid, and what to do to correct for it.

Drivers in an accident avoidance situation sometimes overreact and, as a result, give their car the wrong input. Going through these maneuvers, as well as the emotions behind the wheel, in a safe environment with a professional instructor, is invaluable.

Our hands-on real-life training gives drivers a better understanding of vehicle dynamics which will help them react in panic situations. Allowing students to experience a car at its limits, at slow speeds, and in a controlled environment, gives them this knowledge.

Not only do they become more familiar with where the limits are, they are also given better information on what to do if they approach those limits on the public roads when facing a possible accident. The Defensive Driving Academy staff also works hard to create a fun atmosphere that will put even the most timid student at ease.

The Defensive Driving Academy consists of some classroom time as well as driving exercises. Active safety techniques and advanced skid control exercises builds on the basic knowledge one may have gained from his or her driver training. Our goal is for every DDA graduate to walk away with a new understanding of driving that could one day prevent an accident.

Who is a candidate for this course? Everyone is different, so there are no set rules as to when drivers are ready for this class. That said, it’s our experience that drivers respond best after they've had a couple of months of driving experience. They should feel comfortable enough when driving, engaging in aggressive exercises doesn't overwhelm them. Don’t be alarmed, when we say “aggressive”, we don’t mean “high speed”, but we want to realistically prepare potential students.

A driver’s license is not required; however, drivers MUST be comfortable behind the wheel. The course is approximately 7 hours and drivers are required to provide their own car.

Parents, you are not only invited to attend with your teen, you are encouraged to do so.  Participants must provide their own vehicle.
